CAMPING
What sleeping outside looks like
No camping is required. AMC huts and legal backcountry options exist elsewhere in the White Mountains but are separate from this loop.
FOOD & WATER
Fuel the day, then the next one
Carry enough food and water for a long day and treat any backcountry water. Above treeline you should not expect easy refills.
TRAINING
Prepare for the actual demands
Build to sustained 3,000+ foot climbing days, long descents, and 7–9 hours on your feet. Stair and step-up work transfers especially well.
LOGISTICS
The practical stuff
Trailhead parking is limited and the route is extremely popular. Check New Hampshire State Parks / White Mountain access and weather before travel.
SAFETY
Plans change when conditions do
The exposed ridge is vulnerable to severe wind, thunderstorms, cold, and rapid weather changes. A pleasant forecast in the valley does not guarantee safe ridge conditions.
