THE EXPERIENCE

CAMPING
What sleeping outside looks like
The route can be built around inns, hostels, baggage-transfer services, campsites, or a mix. Wild-camping rules and seasonal management zones must be checked for the exact itinerary.
FOOD & WATER
Fuel the day, then the next one
Frequent communities make resupply easier than on a remote wilderness trek, but each stage still needs a deliberate food and water plan.
TRAINING
Prepare for the actual demands
The central challenge is repeated mileage. Build to 10–15 mile walking days and practice several long days close together rather than focusing only on steep climbing.
LOGISTICS
The practical stuff
The standard route runs south to north from Milngavie to Fort William and is well supported by towns and transport. Lodging can fill early in popular months.
SAFETY
Plans change when conditions do
Scottish weather remains the main wildcard: rain, wind, cold, wet ground, and reduced visibility can arrive quickly. Foot care matters enormously over 96 miles.
