THE EXPERIENCE
What this adventure is about
The Cornish Estate Ruins route gives newer hikers a memorable objective without forcing them straight into a steep Hudson Highlands summit. New York State Parks describes the signed Cornish route as a gentle 0.9-mile walk to the ruins, 1.8 miles round trip from the trailhead.

CAMPING
What sleeping outside looks like
No camping. This is a short day hike in Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve.
FOOD & WATER
Fuel the day, then the next one
Carry water for the hike. Cold Spring makes it easy to build breakfast, coffee, or a post-hike meal into the day.
TRAINING
Prepare for the actual demands
No specialized training. Being comfortable walking several miles is enough.
LOGISTICS
The practical stuff
Take Metro-North’s Hudson Line to Cold Spring, then walk north toward the Washburn/Cornish trail area. The trail itself is short; the station connection turns it into a satisfying half-day outing. Verify current park access and train schedules before departure.
SAFETY
Plans change when conditions do
Do not climb on unstable ruins. Trail surfaces can be muddy, snowy, or icy, and the roadside connection from town deserves normal pedestrian caution.
