What sleeping outside looks like

Paradise is day-use terrain; no camping is part of this hike.

Fuel the day, then the next one

Bring water and enough food for a half-day mountain outing. Treat any natural water before drinking.

Prepare for the actual demands

Build to 4–5 miles of hilly walking and include stairs or sustained incline work. Stronger legs make the long descent much more pleasant.

The practical stuff

Paradise access depends on park roads, parking, weather, and seasonal operations. Check current Mount Rainier National Park information before departure.

Plans change when conditions do

Snow can linger and weather can shift rapidly. Stay on constructed trails to protect fragile meadows and avoid venturing onto snow slopes without the skills for current conditions.
