  • Appalachian Trail: Metro-North Station to Manitou

A roughly 40-mile, train-connected New York Appalachian Trail section from the Harlem Valley to the Hudson — a legitimate multi-day backpacking objective that starts and ends without a car.

  • Old Rag Circuit

Shenandoah’s famous granite scramble: a long, very strenuous circuit with hand-over-hand moves, tight passages, and a broad summit above Virginia.

  • Franconia Ridge Loop

A classic White Mountains loop over Little Haystack, Mount Lincoln, and Mount Lafayette with miles of spectacular above-treeline ridge walking.

  • Angels Landing

Zion’s legendary chain-assisted ridge, famous for huge canyon views and equally famous exposure. Short mileage does not make this an easy hike.

  • Four Pass Loop — Maroon Bells

The classic Maroon Bells–Snowmass Wilderness backpacking loop: four 12,000-foot passes, alpine basins, wildflowers, and some of Colorado’s most photographed mountains.

  • Tour du Mont Blanc

One of the world’s great long-distance hikes: roughly 170 km around the Mont Blanc massif through France, Italy, and Switzerland.

  • Wonderland Trail

A 93-mile circuit around Mount Rainier with about 27,000 feet of climbing — forests, wildflower meadows, glacial rivers, and relentless elevation change.

  • Alta Via 1 — Dolomites

The classic Dolomites high route from Lago di Braies toward Belluno: about 125 km of rifugi, limestone towers, high passes, and some of Italy’s most famous mountain scenery.
